Size Description:
Notes: Foliage: Basal on petioles 1.5 to 5 inches long, reniform to ovate-orbicular, lobed and dentate, rough or glossy surface, often tinted bronze or purple. Coral bells are often grown more for the showy foliage than the flowers. Flowers: Sprays of small scarlet, coral red or white flowers on stems 1 to 2 feet tall. Often flowers for several months, especially if faded flower stalks are removed. Culture: Full sun or partial shade in very well-drained but moisture-retentive soil. Partial shade recommended, especially for colored-leaf varieties. Does not tolerate clay or acidic soils well. Plants are shallow-rooted and subject to frost heaving, especially if crowns are not planted about an inch below soil level and mulch applied.
