Notes:
Growth habit: Upright
Foliage: Alternate, linear-lanceolate, 2 to 5 inches long, with serrated margins
Flowers: Individual flowers of goldenrod are small and bright yellow, and are borne in spiky clusters July to October
Culture: Goldenrods are frost hardy and grow well in sun or part shade in any fertile, well-drained soil
Pests and problems: Leaf rust
Uses: Fall border, cut flowers
Propagation: Seed, or cuttings for hybrids
Cultivars:
‘Golden Fleece’ – 15 inches tall by 2 feet wide, well behaved
‘Crown of Rays’ – 2-3 feet tall, doesn’t need staking, with highly distinctive, almost horizontal rays of bright gold flowers
‘Fireworks’ – 2 feet tall, compact, cascading, clump forming
