Notes:
Growth habit: Prostrate or upright
Foliage: Opposite, oblong, glossy dark green, 1 to 3 inches long, on repeatedly branched stems.
Flowers: Single, funnel shaped, pink to red centers, with 5 flat, radiating petals, clustered in the upper leaf axils. 1 to 3 inches across; some with a colored “eye”; bloom all summer
Culture: Sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Do not tolerate soil that stays wet for a long period of time. Typically requires regular nitrogen fertilization
Uses: Bedding plant, containers, groundcover. Tough little plants that thrive in heat. All parts of the plant contain poisonous alkaloids used in drugs to treat leukemia.
Propagation: Seed, cuttings
