Size Description:
Notes: Growth habit: Spreading; flat, crowded rosettes Foliage: Open rosette, 3 to 8 inches wide, glabrous, with long, thick and narrow leaves that have pointed tips. Leaves may be tinted pink or red. Stoloniferous. Flowers: Purple-red, densely pubescent, about 1 inch wide, rising from the rosette in coarse cymes in midsummer. Young plants form around the base of the ‘hen’ and after it flowers it often dies, leaving the ‘chicks’ to grow in its place. Culture: Full sun and very good drainage. The plants do best in poor, rocky soil Pests and problems: Rust, crown rot Uses: Rock garden, edging, border, bedding plant, containers Propagation: Division Species and Cultivars: Many!
